Have You Allowed Yourself to Dream? (Your Du’a Depends on It)

Imagine it’s the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

You sit down, ready to make the most powerful du’as of the year…

but your mind goes blank.

What do I even ask for?

What do I really want?

You start listing the usual things,

marriage, a nice home, travel, umrah.

But then you realize…

What do I actually want in a spouse?

What does my dream home even look like?

What would I do if money wasn’t an issue?

Nothing comes to mind.

That was me, the first time I sat down to plan my du’as.

I had spent so long in survival mode, reacting to life instead of actively choosing a direction, that I had never allowed myself to dream.

If you can’t even imagine the life you want, how can you ask Allah for it?

Doesn’t Allah Already Know What’s in My Heart?

Yes, He does.

But do you?

If you don’t have a clear vision of the life you’re asking for, then:

How will you "tie your camel" and take action toward it?

How will you feel excitement when you make du’a?

How will you recognize when your du’a is answered?

I used to believe my du’a needed to be beautiful and poetic.

But du’a isn’t about fancy wording, it’s about the vision behind it.

That's where excitement comes from.

The clearer your vision, the more alive your du’a become.

You start to feel it.

You Need Inspiration

Let’s be real: you’re not going to come up with life-changing du’as while hunched over your computer, staring at a blank page.

Your mind needs inspiration to stretch beyond the limits of "realistic" thinking.

Do something that sparks your imagination:

- Go for a walk in nature.

- Visit a beautiful view.

- Look through your saved or liked posts

- Scroll through Pinterest

- Think about who you admire (or even envy). What do they have that you secretly wish for?

Your dreams won’t expand if you don’t feed them.

Allow yourself to see what’s possible.

“Nice Things Are Okay for Others, But Not for Me.”

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Is denial and treating ourselves badly something pleasing to Allah?

Or is it something pleasing to Shaytan?

I read this from Muhammad Al shareef رحمه الله and I love his analogy:

I imagine the person who makes this comment as an abusive adult.

And inside that abusive adult is a beautiful innocent child who just wants nice things and wants to have joy in their life.

They just want an ice cream, they just want a toy ...

they just want a crayon.

The abusive adult says, "no, you can't have nice things, you're bad and you don't deserve it."

And the child cries - but there's no one to hear the child's cry and no one to have mercy and love to the child .. EXCEPT YOU!"

Allah told us to make du'a for dunya!

وِمِنْهُم مَن يَقُولَ رَبَّنَا أيِّنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الأَخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

[2:201]

So the problem isn’t making du’a for dunya.

The problem is ONLY making du’a for dunya.

But What If I Ask for Something That Isn’t Good for Me?

Anas ibn Mâlik narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said,

When one of you makes a duʿa’, then let him be firm and determined in his duʿa’, and let him not say, ‘O Allah! If You will, then please forgive me’, for there is no one who can force Allah to do anything. [Bukhâri]

Allah will NEVER give you something that is bad for you.

So if he knows that what you’re asking for isn’t good,

then Allah will either save the reward for the hereafter or give you something better.

The key is to not get attached to the outcome.

Trust in His wisdom, and have good thoughts about Him.

Your Next Step: The Dream Life Brain Dump

Grab a pen and paper (or your notes app) and go somewhere you feel inspired.

Spend a few minutes writing down everything you want, without judgment.

Do not limit yourself to what you think is realistic!!!

You don't have to know how it would happen, if it could happen or even be certain that you want it.

Just write everything that comes to mind.

You got nothing to lose but a lot to gain.

What is your dream vision when it comes to?

  • Deen

  • Health

  • Wealth

  • Legacy

  • Relationships

  • Things you want to experience (fun)

No dream is too big. No desire is too small.

Allah is Al-Karim, The Most Generous.

What’s next?

You’ve opened your heart.

You’ve dreamed without limits.

You’ve made the du’a.

But now comes the part no one talks about:

How do you hold that vision… and move?

You see, most people stop here.

They wait. Hope. Wonder if they “did it right.”

But the ones who see change?

they move.

They ask Allah, then act like it’s already on its way.

They stop outsourcing their life to “someday.”

They tie their camel.

That’s what this guide is about.

Clear vision. Quiet confidence. Consistent action, rooted in trust.

Not hustle. Not control.

Aligned effort.

Just one foot in front of the other, with tawakkul.

And if you want the framework i use to balance tawakkul with action, check out the “Tie Your Camel” guide.

With love and du’as,
